RUBAVU - Rwandan refugees who were living in various countries have continued to voluntarily return home, after hearing from friends and relatives who returned earlier.

This week, the Ministry of Disaster management and Refugee Affairs through its two transit camps in the Western Province received 130 Rwandans from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Yesterday, Nkamira Transit Camp in Rubavu District welcomed 59 people while 71 were received by Nyagatare Transit Camp in Rusizi District.

Among those repatriated were 42 were women, 15 men and 73 children.

According to returnees, they had been reluctant to return home due to misinformation from disgruntled colleagues, that government would suppress and kill them.

Jean Claude Rwahama the director of refugee affairs in the ministry welcomed the returnees.  Since the beginning of the year, more than 5,000 refugees have returned.

"Their coming back shows that they continue to turn deaf ears to all those misleading them,” Rwahama said. "We are optimistic that we shall achieve our target of repatriating and reintegrating all the returnees.”
