Ideal interiors: Baskets as unique décor style

I am a person on the move. I am always moving from one country to the other in my business trips, but then one thing I love about my work is the travelling part of it. I love to travel so much that my mother calls me Johnny Walker. But the best part of the travelling is going places and seeing different things which make life more interesting. When in a new town I visit malls, fashion houses, museums and even people’s homes to see how they have put together their décor imagination.

I am writing this article from Mombasa and was very amused when a friend invited me to her sister’s kitchen party a week before her wedding. The first thing that I noticed when I entered this house was the use of baskets everywhere. I found it very amusing.

In my entire life I have never seen so many beautiful and different kinds of baskets in one place. I reckoned that the décor of the entire house was basket themed and I guessed right, because even in the rest room, there were two beautiful hand woven African baskets.

I live and eat fashion and style, so I commented on how beautiful and unique the house décor is, and the bride to be was very happy on my comments that she took me to every room in her house to show me her beautiful baskets which she has collected over the years when travelling world wide.

Baskets come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and colours, and they make wonderful decorating tools and can add style and texture to any room as I realized when moving from one room to another. Most baskets have a lot of character and can accent your furniture and décor nicely.

Baskets can be expensive or cheap depending on what one is looking for, and according to my newly found friend one does not need to spend a lot of money when buying the baskets for as long as one has a creative mind.

There are so many ways to use the baskets in the entire home as I saw. Starting at the front door we were greeted with a basket full of flowers.

In the sitting rooms the baskets were used to store things like documents, magazines and books.

In fact there were almost six different colours of baskets in the living room and each was used to store something in it but in a very decorative manner.

In the bed rooms I noticed that the baskets were used to hold hair accessories like combs, brushes, and even make up.

Also in each of the bed rooms in the house had a basket hanged on a plain wall. They made very nice accents on the walls.

Down the hallway there were three suspended shelves which were used to hold some smaller decorated baskets, in fact I was more than excited when I spotted our very own agaseke basket and the sight was one to behold, very unique indeed.

The master bedroom had one very unique basket which she bought in Marseille and made it look like a vase because she decided to be creative and arranged a bouquet of dried flowers cascading downwards to the floor, the basket made the room look very inviting I had to suppress my urge of wanting to jump on the bed.

I also saw baskets in the washroom which were used to store things like towels and the toilet paper rolls.  Which ever way baskets were used in this house, it was something I had never seen before.

Just in case you have something in mind in redecorating your home, then go all the way and create a unique theme for your home like the basket theme!
