Both APR Fc and Rayon Sport won their rescheduled national league fixtures on Saturday to keep their title chase on track.

The reigning champions trounced visiting Mukura 3-0 at Nyamirambo stadium to remain second, three points behind leaders Atraco while Rayon came from behind to overcome Kibuye 2-1 at Gatwaro stadium to move into fourth.

Kabange Twite, APR’s top scorer last season notched a brace and former SC Kiyovu winger Jabir Mutarambirwa added a late third.

In Kibuye, Hamad Byukusenge gave the home side a half time lead but a second half double by Jimmy Gatete gave Rayon the much needed win.
Mukura and Rayon swapped places with the Huye outfit dropping to fifth and the later jumping to four.

The two fixtures were rescheduled because APR and Rayon were involved in CAF competitions.

The military side was eliminated from the MTN Champions League at the first round of the preliminary stage by Zamalek 4-1 on aggregate.

While Rayon progressed to the second round of the Confederation Cup after eliminating Ethiopia’s Harar Beer 5-4 on penalty kicks. The two legs had ended in 2-all aggregate draw.

Atraco ended the league first round at the top of the table standing with 30 points with a record of ten victories and one loss.

APR, chasing a tenth league title in 14 years, are second, three points off the pace while Kiyovu is third on 22 points, one ahead of Rayon in fourth. Mukura is fifth with 19.
The second round gets underway this weekend. Ferwafa, the local football governing body will not grant any resting for the teams.

It has been confirmed, a tradition that the league will be called off next month due to annual mourning period for the victims of the 1994 genocide and again in May when the Amavubi Stars start their 2010 World Cup/Nations’ Cup qualifying campaign.
