The move by the ministry of health to introduce a special course for hospital managers is an initiative that will further improve healthcare delivery.

According to the Minister of Health, the post-graduate hospital management course will be introduced to help separate administration from medical work in hospitals, giving time to doctors to concentrate on patients’ health rather than the day-to-day running of hospitals.

This course will be offered by the Rwanda University of Medicine and Health Sciences that will be under Rwanda Biomedical Centre.

Despite the progress that has been made in improving the healthcare systems, the sector still has to deal with shortages in human resource, as the ratio of patients to doctors is still wanting.

The most important aspect under this arrangement is the fact that this course will be undertaken by graduates from disciplines outside medicine.

In addition to resolving the issue of medical doctors having to perform administrative chores like signing cheques, the move will also see professionals from other disciplines get employment and contribute to service delivery in the health sector.

The Rwandan people’s health is priority and any effort to improve the sector should be supported by all stakeholders.
