Ntagungira gets Caf nod

FORMER Fifa/Caf assistant referee Celestin Ntagungira a.k.a Abegga has been appointed as the zonal referee representative for Central and East Africa.Upon his appointment, he said, “I’m delighted and hope to do everything within my means to produce some of the best referees on the continent.”

FORMER Fifa/Caf assistant referee Celestin Ntagungira a.k.a Abegga has been appointed as the zonal referee representative for Central and East Africa.

Upon his appointment, he said, "I’m delighted and hope to do everything within my means to produce some of the best referees on the continent.”

Ntagungira will be charged with coordination, appointment and promotion of referees in the region.

Ntagungira retired from international refereeing after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ntagungira, who had been refereeing since 1997, made his international debut in 2001. He then went on to officiate at big tournaments including the 2006 and 2008 Africa Nations Cup, 2006 and 2010 World Cup as well as 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Caf also appointed Belaid Lacarne from Algeria to represent North Africa, Louis Laryea from Ghana to represent West B, Birame Ndiaye from Senegal to represent West A, Jean Fidele Diramba from Gabon to represent Central Africa and Namibia’s John Muinjo to represent Southern Africa.
