Employees of Transparency Rwanda (TR) visited Murambi Genocide Memorial site to pay their respects to the over 50,000 people killed at the site located in Sothern Province during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The staff donated Rwf 500,000 to the site.

Addressing the media shortly after the tour, Marie Immaculee Ingabire, head of TR, expressed disappointment over genocide revisionists saying it’s an insult to Rwandans.

"Based on what we have witnessed at memorial centers especially here in Murambi, it’s unfortunate that there are still people with no accurate information about the genocide that happened in this country,” Ingabire said.

Most people who were killed at this site had sought refuge after being assured of security by their leaders.

One of those who survived at the site, Emmanuel Murangera, 52 years old, testified how Tutsis were brutally murdered at this place, including his wife and five children.

"I first went to a Catholic Church with many others but we where instructed to come to Murambi, unfortunately we later realized that it was a way of gathering us so that we can easily be killed in large numbers,” Murangera said.

The site is the only one in the country where 17 years after the genocide; some of the remains of the victims were preserved and displayed in their entirety.
