Teens and Respecting Curfews

Almost every adult went through the loathsome curfew during their teenage hood. Curfews are detested by teenagers today. Just like it could be despicable to every teenage in this era, so was it then or even worse. Complete freedom means respecting decisions made by parents including curfew.

Almost every adult went through the loathsome curfew during their teenage hood. Curfews are detested by teenagers today. Just like it could be despicable to every teenage in this era, so was it then or even worse.

Back in the days, not only did teens have curfew but the whole village had the responsibility over every child—they were free to spank you if you were found in err or moving late in the night.

Lately, the drift has taken a different direction. There is so much that can keep teens out till late. Some times it could be a friend’s birthday party or even a shopping spree with friends but parents will still demand that you be home at a particular time.

No teenager loves curfew but lets face it, it’s been here for ages and it is here to stay. Your only concern should be how to go through that stage successfully!

Sometimes we give parents reason to impose the curfews which they may occasionally take to another level and keep you grounded for a week or so.

Teenagers, who are disobedient, drink alcohol, smoke and hang out with folks who could be of negative influence, leave parents with no choice but to implement curfews or keep them grounded.

Patricia Umutoni, a 17-year-old says she hates curfews but she knows her parents mean well and do it for her safety.

"Some times I want to hang out with my friends till late but I can’t because my curfew is 7:00 a.m. My dad is tough so I am usually home way before that.

"Many teenagers are crazy, they drink, smoke and party till very late. I am glad I have curfew otherwise I might have ended up wasted,” Umutoni said.

Umutoni says that none of her friends enjoys their curfew but they seek solace in the fact that it’s only for a short while and later in life, they can always have all the fun they missed out on.

Mrs. Josephine Kabera, a mother of three teenagers says that adolescents often sulk whenever they are given curfew but it’s because parents care and worry about the wrong choices youngsters may make.

"There are so many wolves out there waiting to devour our children and they utilize the late night hours. The curfews are to protect our dear children until they are able to make good mature decisions,” said Kabera.

As much as you might win your parents’ trust, they will always see that child element in you. They are afraid of what may happen to you. Parents will impose the curfews but these will not last forever, just a few years and you will be independent.
