Nyaxo Comedy series has been trending since a team of young talented comedians led by the main act Nyaxo, uploaded their first episode on YouTube in June 2019. Thanks to the internet and social media Rwandans spotted a big comedian who has since been gracing our screens with entertainment.

Born on June 16, 2001 in Kigali, Gitega, the actor, real name, Olivier Kanyabugande, started comedy while in Ordinary level at Christ Roi De Nyanza. He liked to perform short skits, which he created, before his schoolmates who enjoyed them so much so that it inspired him to invent more and do them even better. As a day scholar at Lycee De Kigali, where he attended his Advanced level, it was an opportunity to pursue comedy as a profession when he was done with school work.

"My journey has been a blessing since I ventured into comedy because my career grew in terms of numbers and financially. For example, my own YouTube channel has grown to over 180,000 subscribers and that is a great achievement to someone who still has big dreams and a lot to give to comedy lovers,” said Nyaxo.

Having signed his first pro contract in 2018, the young comedian who is the only comedian in his family highlights that comedy didn’t just make him famous, it also gave him a voice to use to help and express him easily.

"I was greatly helped financially by comedy, and I was able to pay for my Advanced Level school tuition. Comedy has become my full time profession that I depend on since becoming a comedian. I plan to do stand-up comedy more often this year after I am done touring schools,” he added.

The young comedian is planning to do comedy tours in different countries and join other different entertainment sectors like music to keep entertaining his fans.

He believes that the Rwandan comedy industry is growing fast and in about three-six years it will be among the biggest in Africa since the comedians have passion and support each other.

Asked where he sees himself in five years, the comedian said that he sees himself as one of the not only Rwandan but also African big names in comedy.
