Editor,

Through your newspaper, I allow me to congratulate the U-17 national team, Junior Wasps, for representing the country at the ongoing U-17 Fifa World Cup in Mexico.

While they did not manage to advance beyond the group stage, the boys proved their potential despite being grouped with some of the best teams at the championship. A combination of bad luck and poor finishing was their undoing against England.

The last gasp winner by Uruguay denied our boys a well deserved point while, against Canada, the Junior Wasps could have taken all the three points if it wasn’t for lack of clinical finishing.

All in all, the boys proved their potential and justified  our hope that the future of the national team looks brighter.

I have no doubt that the youngsters will be able to regroup and continue to advance to represent the country at different levels.

However, the most important question is, will we be able to keep them together? What is the government going to do to see that the talent and potential of the Junior Wasps showed is maintained?

Let’s all continue giving them our backing and support, the future looks bright for our national team.
