East Africa’s leading shoe retailer, Bata, is set to open three stores in Rwanda by the end of the year, according to the firm’s management.

We are trying to spread our wings across the region; this is the first branch we have opened in Kigali. We intend to open three more stores this year,” Nasir Rafiq, the company’s Managing Director told the Business Times during the launch of the first outlet in Rwanda at Kigali’s Union Trade Centre (UTC).

He said Bata is entering the Rwandan market with quite ambitious plan.

"The second hall is going to be in Kigali City Towers (KCT), and we are looking for other strategic places around Kigali, where we will put another branch, then we can move upcountry, maybe in Butare.”
