KIGALI - Rwanda Security Agencies have busted Kayumba Nyamwasa’s  terror network that was planning to conduct terrorist activities in the country, according to investigations carried out by The New Times.

In a Press Release posted on its website on 21st June 2011 The National Police confirmed the arrest of "Col” Ndererimana Norbert, notoriously known as "Gaheza”, together with five others on a mission to carry out terrorist activities.

Gaheza was part of FDLR and RUD-Urunana eventually breaking away to form his own armed group known as FRONADER-INGABO Z’UMWAMI, based in Binza, Rutchuru, in North Kivu, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The alleged terrorists were paraded to the media at the Criminal Investigations Department on Wednesday 22nd June 2011.

According to sources in MONUSCO, the UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC, the "Gaheza” group, with other armed groups in DRC, such as SOKI, FPLC (composed of defectors from CNDP after the latter was integrated in FARDC), FDLR RUD-URUNANA and Mai-Mai groups have been carrying out terror and other heinous crimes in the DRC.

They say that the criminal activities of these groups and their destabilizing effect on DRC and the region are well documented and in the  public domain.
 
Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Theos Badege, indicated that for Rwanda security agencies to arrest Gaheza and group, it was a remarkable success and an opportunity to provide vital information to bring to justice the political and military leaders of these groups.

During his interview with journalists, Gaheza described in detail his plans to carry out terror activities in Rwanda on instructions from Kayumba Nyamwasa and Habyarimana Emmanuel.

This included attacking innocent civilians in congested areas, targeting infrastructure such as fuel stations and tankers, as well as political leaders.

He provided details of the critical role of Nyamwasa and Habyarimana in planning, organizing, and funding the violent activities.
 
Gaheza revealed how he was in telephone contact with Kayumba in South Africa. He, for instance, testifies that on November 1., 2010, he called Kayumba on +27791015352 where they agreed to form an alliance with the purpose of destabilizing Rwanda and the region.

Diplomatic sources in Uganda have corroborated Gaheza’s contention of how he was put in contact with Kayumba Nyamwasa, by Patrick Tabaro, a senior high court judge in Uganda.

Intelligence sources in Kinshasa have confirmed that Gaheza was able to reach the Judge through a business colleague dealing in DRC minerals called Barnabas Bishaka.

The judge, according to Gaheza, intimated to him how he provided legal support to Kayumba’s brother, Lt Col Rugigana Ngabo on trial in Rwanda, by providing legal counsel to try and have the case heard at the East Africa Court of Justice.

According to Rwanda National Police, Gaheza’s telephone handset reveals the Judge’s mobile telephone +256772586282, and his office number 0414256330.

It also shows numbers made to and received from Kayumba Nyamwasa, in a similar period. Efforts to talk to Tabaro were fruitless as he could not answer our calls.

Among those arrested is one Sibomana Ramathan, who together with Gaheza, have been receiving money from Rwanda National Congress (RNC) and Convention Nationale de Republicain (CNR) in Europe and Canada.
 
According to his testimony, this money was sent after Gaheza established contacts with Kayumba Nyamwasa and Habyarimana Emmanuel.

It was wired via Western Union and Money Gram and withdrawn from a neighboring country.

Further investigations have provided credible evidence linking Kayumba Nyamwasa, Karegeya Patrick and the rest of the gang with FDLR terrorists.

Sources in Rwanda Defense Forces have indicated that the terror network has in the last one and a half years killed and injured innocent civilians in Kigali and Southern Province through grenade attacks.

A number of people involved in these crimes have given shocking testimonies about the involvement of Kayumba Nyamwasa and the genocidal criminals of FDLR and their offshoots in these terror acts.

One, Rwandanga Froduard, narrates how before he engaged in throwing grenades in Kigali, Kayumba Nyamwasa had talked to "Brig Gen” Nizeyimana Stanislas alias Bigaruka on telephone in May 2010, and how Nyamwasa eventually sent a delegation to DRC to meet "Maj Gen” Mudacumura.

"Brig” Bigaruka is the norm de guerre of Nizeyimana Stanislas, and the Deputy to "Maj Gen” Mudacumura Sylvestre, the FDLR Commander, both sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council for their criminal activities in DRC.

Rwandanga revealed that it was after this collaboration that he was sent on a mission to throw grenades, and he was arrested after committing the acts.

Security sources in DRC confirmed close working relationship between Kayumba and the FDLR after the former sent an emissary to meet with "Maj Gen” Mudacumura, confirming the testimony provided by the arrested individuals’ testimonies.

Information provided by MONUSCO was further confirmed by demobilized combatants from armed groups in the DRC currently at Mutobo Demobilization Centre.

They include individuals from the FDLR and RUD-Urunana, such as "Col” Nizeyimana Wenseslas alias Kabasha KITE, the hitherto second-in-command to "Maj Gen” Musare of RUD-Urunana and "Lt” Nsengiyumva Venuste alias Tshombo, FDLR Liaison officer at the DRC – Uganda border at Ishasha.

They have confirmed that Kayumba Nyamwasa was in contact with them in the jungles of DRC as well as their political leaders in the west.

"Lt” Nsengiyumva Venuste confirms receiving Kayumba Nyamwasa’s delegation, led by one Rutarindwa, who came to meet Maj. Gen Mudacumura between August 18 to September 25, 2010.

"It is preposterous for Kayumba Nyamwasa and Habyarimana Emmanuel to deny any knowledge of Gaheza and the armed groups based in DRC. These individuals and armed groups operating in DRC are a matter in public domain and the evidence provided by these criminals is overwhelming,” a top Rwandan National Police officer said.

"The political alliance of Kayumba Nyamwasa, Theogene Rudasingwa, Gerald Gahima, Patrick Karegeya, Habyarimana Emmanuel, Rusesabagina and the leaders of FDLR, RUD-Urunana, FDU-Inkingi is well documented.

Their meetings, declarations, communiqués and even covert subversive activities in Europe, North America and Africa are public knowledge”.
