MPs donate to Genocide widows

GISAGARA/KAMONYI- Lawmakers on Monday donated 28 heifers to Genocide widows and survivors in Mbeho Village, Kansi Sector in Gisagara District.The animals, worth over Rwf 9 million, were handed over by the vice president of the Senate, Prosper Higiro, who was accompanied by various members of both chambers of Parliament and staff.

GISAGARA/KAMONYI- Lawmakers on Monday donated 28 heifers to Genocide widows and survivors in Mbeho Village, Kansi Sector in Gisagara District.

The animals, worth over Rwf 9 million, were handed over by the vice president of the Senate, Prosper Higiro, who was accompanied by various members of both chambers of Parliament and staff.

"this donation is a sign of love and a way of supporting genocide survivors which shows that government is supportive, despite the problems caused by the Genocide,” Higiro said.

He requested the beneficiaries to share the animals’ offspring others and strive for self sustainability and community development.

"Cow milk is the best gift of love, and as a Rwandan woman, this will be able to improve our feeding and earnings from milk sales and manure,” said one beneficiary, Colleta Mukansange.

The parliamentary team also visited Kamonyi district memorial site where they paid homage to the remains of over 30,000 Genocide victims resting there.

The team donated Rwf 500,000 towards the district’s plans to archive the history of Genocide in Kamonyi.

While in Gisagara district, the team also toured Gisagara District Memorial site, located in Kansi sector. The site is in the final stages of construction.
