APR are running away the first leg of the national basketball league. The 2009 champions on Sunday won their seventh consecutive game. The army side APR bitter their rivals CSK with a ten-point difference (80-90).

But despite the win, which goes along way to confirm the former champions as the team to beat this season, APR’s head trainer, Cliff Owour, his team granted their opponents casual points.

"Although we won the game, we did not meet our objective. We usually asses a team and set a target but this time we didn’t play up to it,” Owour expressed.

After losing against APR, CSK consoled themselves with a win over the National University of Rwanda, NUR 79-53.

But Javier Kamanzi a.k.a Vava, CSK’s head coach, was more concerned with the injury to his team’s shooting guard Gerol Ndugu in the first quarter against APR.

"Although we were a bit exhausted after the APR game, we had to win the next against (against NUR), for which I’m happy we did,” Kamanzi noted.

In other games played the weekend, defending champions KBC thoroughly beat Rusizi 119-55. Rusizi later lost 124-54 to the youthful Espoir side.

APR lead the league table with 14 points, one ahead of CSK in second place. The National University of Rwanda is placed third with 9 points and a game in hand.
