Editor,

I welcome the conviction of the Rwandan ex-minister by the ICTR in Arusha on Friday, last week.

Sentencing Pauline Nyiramasuhuko to life imprisonment for genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide and rape, is important for accountability for the people of Rwanda and a determination to end the culture of impunity.

The conviction gives the survivors and the people of Rwanda hope that even those genocide fugitives still on the run, will one day have their day in court no matter how long it takes.

It is unfortunate that Nyiramasuhuko, a mother of four, who was supposed to protect her fellow mothers turned out to be their killers.
