NYAGATARE-42 motorcycle taxi (Taximoto) operators in Nyagatare District were on Wednesday presented with motorcycles worth Rwf32.5m on credit.

The credit facility was negotiated through the Nyagatare Motorcyclists Cooperative Union (NMCU).

According to Emmanuel Biramahire, the president of the cooperative, this is one way of fighting poverty among members.

"VERMA supplies motorcycles. We discussed with them on how we can provide our members with motorcycles which they would repay in instalments,” he said.

He added that each beneficiary would repay for each of their motorcycles within a period of six months.

Francois Mbareba from Tabagwe Sector, welcomed the facility saying: "We have been using other people’s motorbikes and end up with no profits. But with these ones, we shall gain a lot from them.”

Janvier Claude Noheri, another Taximoto rider from Rukomo Sector, sounded optimistic.

"This motorbike will help me own a house. I will work hard and make sure I repay,” he said.

Nyagatare Motorcyclist Cooperative Union comprises a consortium of 19 cooperatives with over 706 members across the district.
