GATSIBO-30 Red Cross volunteers will be dispatched to various schools in Gatsibo District to train students how to offer First Aid.

Patrick Ndengera, the head of Red Cross in the district, said that the program will first be conducted in three secondary schools; Kiziguro Secondary School, APECOM Gakenke and APEM Ngarama.

"We want to equip students with knowledge on First Aid. We shall begin with three schools using our volunteers,” he said.

According to Ndengera, the students will be used as Red Cross agents in their respective schools.

Eric Habumuremyi, a senior-five student at APEM Ngarama said they will be grateful after receiving the training.

"We normally experience problems of students who faint during entertainment and other events. We shall be providing them First Aid,” he said.

Ndengera added, the Red Cross branch in the district has also been engaged in other activities like tree planting and environmental protection.

"We have gone beyond borders by building houses for the needy residents and planting trees across the district. We planted 25, 000 trees and constructed 40 houses,” he said.
