The "Beautiful People” party may sound like a lot of fun, but in reality, organisers say their efforts address a very serious matter.

The Beautiful People is a theme night aimed at bringing together people to support each other and to reinforce the spirit of brotherhood amongst East Africans. The party will be held at Manor Hotel in Nyarutarama, today, at 8 pm, with an entrance fee of Rwf5,000 and free tequila shots. The dress code is white.

The theme was initiated by a young Ugandan music promoter, Reno Kabachelor. It was held for the first time in Kampala, Uganda on June 8, this year.

Kabachelor told The New Times, that Beautiful People is an annual theme night:  "we target people of all walks of life, especially those who can create positive change in the society.”

He added that the event is not only about entertainment. Each year, Beautiful People will focus on a different theme, for instance visiting old people, patients, or charity concerts to support disadvantaged people.

The Beautiful People concept will be held in Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi.
