KIGALI - The former German President, Horst Kohler, yesterday visited Green Hills Academy in Nyarutarama, Kigali, where he was entertained by students and given a guided tour of the school by the headmaster, Ron Wallace.

Deputy Headmaster, Gaspard Kagenza, said it was an honour to be visited by such a distinguished economist and former president.

"We are so humbled by this visit that is going to strengthen our relationship with Germany. It will also boost the students’ desire to study the German language,” Kagenza said.

He  added that the school has an ongoing partnership with Lise-Meitner Gymnasium High School close to the German city of Munich.

"Every year, German students and teachers are hosted by their counterparts here at Green Hills Academy and the same is done when our students go there,” Kagenza said.

He added that the student exchange program helps students from both countries understand and appreciate each other’s culture, thus promoting Rwandan-German relations as well.

Green Hills School Head boy, Michael Nsengiyumva, said it was an honour for the school to host the ex-president.

"This visit attaches a lot of significance to the school, especially due to the fact that Green Hills Academy is the only school in Rwanda that teaches the German language in its curriculum,” the head boy said, adding that he was hopeful the visit will give his school more recognition.
