KIGALI - The Senate yesterday approved the appointments of new Auditor General, Obadiah Biraro, and other officials to head various public institutions after they were given the green light by the Senate’s Committee on Political Affairs and Good Governance.

Others approved included Angelique Kantengwa, as the Director General, Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB), Laetitia Nkunda, Director General of Local Economic Development Support Funds (RLDSF), and Esther Mutamba, the new Director General of Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA).

Sen. Faustin Munyakabera, the vice-president of the committee, told senators that the evaluation and interview exercise found the six officials competent enough.

"Basing on what is in Biraro Obadiah’s file and the discussions we had with him, the committee found that he has knowledge and experience to perform the job he is required to do,” Munyakabera said.

"Thus the Committee requests the Senate to have confidence in him and approve him as the Auditor General (AG) for state finances.”

Munyakabera had similar declarations for the rest of the group.

Elias Twagira the Director of Planning at the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) and Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza, the Director General of Rwanda Natural Resources Authority (RNRA) were also approved to head their new bodies.
