Editor,

Allow me through your newspaper to thank all responsible fathers who have done well to provide for their families. Father’s Day is marked in the third week of June on selected days in different countries.

Father’s Day is a celebration honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.

In Rwanda, the phenomena may be new. But we cannot afford to neglect the role of fathers in creating and uniting strong families.

We should also use this day to protect and defend the rights of our children.

Too many young people especially in Africa grow up without their fathers. Due to poor upbringing, the youth lack proper guidance to shape their future or become useful citizens.

The importance of fatherhood, therefore, cannot be overemphasised. To parents from around the country who are making strong contributions to their families and communities, I wish you a happy Father’s Day.
