JEAN Baptiste Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi scored a brace to guide APR to their 10th Peace Cup title yesterday at Amahoro Stadium.

Police who were playing in their first final, scored first through prolific goal scorer Kagere Meddie on the 18th minute but the league champions equalized 16 minutes later through Ernest Kwizera’s powerful header.

After the break, Police regained the lead through winger Ibrahim Ndikumasabo and looked like they had done enough only for Migi to score on the 86th minute forcing the tie into extra-time.

A few minutes later, Migi scored his second to give APR a 3-2 lead.

Malawi international Victor Nyirenda then put the tie beyond Police’s reach with APR’s fourth goal.
Earlier on, AS Kigali defeated Mukura 4-3 on penalties in the 3rd place play-off. The sides had settled for 2-all draw in normal time.

APR pocketed Rwf5m for the triumph while Police took home Rwf3m. AS Kigali settled for Rwf1.5m courtesy of MTN Rwanda, the tournament sponsors.

APR’s triumph means that Police misses out on continental football. Kiyovu, who are certain to finish second in the Primus league will now represent Rwanda in next year’s Orange Confederation Cup.
