Not wanting to disturb me, I was left on that rocking chair for almost an hour before I was woken up.
I must admit that when I looked around the house the following morning, the rocker had added something to the décor of my home.
When we think of rocking chairs, we often think of the elderly couple sitting on the front porch of the village home filled with the aroma of fresh food in a cooking pot.
I grew up in a time that in most homes there was at least one rocking chair.
It was the seat of choice for the elderly in many homes, because we were always told that only elderly people needed the rocking chair because of bad backs- so the chair was only suitable for the adults little did we know that the seat was sweet that once one sat in it, it was a sure way of napping no matter what.
Later on mothers realized that the rocker chairs had some magical effect on the little babies, once a mother sits on it with a baby in hand – the baby will just fall asleep for the longest time possible.
I remember when watching old movies, there was no home of the rich portrayed without a rocker.
In fact some homes had more than one rocker chairs for the master and mistress of the house which they used when they wanted to unwind from the stress of the day.
Now these magical chairs were forgotten for a while, but they have finally made a big come back in the furniture world, I don’t know whether it is because we are now aging faster than we should and all of us need a rocking chair to sooth our backs and remove all the stress in our minds in the evening once we get home or it is just that antiques are back in action; but whichever way you look at it a rocking chair is now a must furniture piece to own in a home.
Today there are many rock chairs designs to choose from, one that will fit your personal style and your room décor.
The good thing with rockers is that they can be custom made by local artisans for as long as one knows what they want.
Rockers can make a great accent piece in the living room. They are also a nice addition to the library room, or family room. You can set one by a lamp and create a quiet and serene reading space.
