Editor,

Let me add my voice to express appreciation for the decision by the government through the Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) for the new plan that sees over 10,000 retired workers and their families receive medical insurance.

Indeed, as a Rwandan, I feel proud that our government has made a wise decision to ensure that such people who are usually in their advanced age and prone to illnesses are properly catered for.

It shows the government’s commitment to ensure that its civil servants "retire with dignity”, as RSSB’s slogan goes. What else can you give a person in old age other than medical insurance?

It is a welcome move because it seemed unfair for former civil servants to lose their medical insurance after retirement, at a time when they need it more than ever.

We are glad about the move and pledge our commitment to play our part to look after our old parents.
