Editor,

The announcement that 10,000 pensioners stand to benefit from health insurance cover could not have come at a better time.

As Dr. Innocent Gakwaya, deputy Director General, in charge of benefits at the Rwanda Social Security Board rightly said, it is at the retirement age of 55 when people need medical aid the most.

This is the stage of life when one is most vulnerable, yet they may not be earning.

The government’s gesture to add to the 7.5 percent deducted from the pensioners with an equal amount is indeed gratifying.

Schemes like these clearly demonstrate that the Government of Rwanda , under the able leadership of His Excellency President Paul Kagame is genuinely interested in the well being of Rwandan citizens.
