Editor,

This letter is with reference to your interesting story in yesterday’s issue of The New Times entitled : " Farmers call for more storage facilities.”

We must applaud Dr. Agnes Kalibata, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources and her team for initiatives such as the just concluded agricultural exhibition in Mulindi.

We also congratulate Jain Drip and Irrigation Systems Limited, for emerging the overall best exhibitor. This Indian based company will certainly help Rwanda’s agricultural sector benefit from its modern technology and advanced systems of irrigation.

Among the local exhibitors, kudos to Eric Ntukabumwe, Chairman, Nyagatare Maize and Investment Group (NYAMIG), who was rewarded for his pro-active approach in agricultural mechanisation. He serves as a good example to fellow Rwandan farmers.

Rwanda, like India, is mainly an agriculture based economy. With the programs being undertaken by Dr. Kalibata and her Ministry in encouraging farmers to enhance their production, this beautiful land of a thousand hills will surely see many millions smiling!
