Cyclists get Tour do Janeiro invite

LOCAL cyclists have landed an invitation to take part in the Tour do Janeiro scheduled for July 28-1 August in Brazil.Team Rwanda were runners-up to Eritrea in the just-ended Kwita Izina cycling tour and head coach Jonathan Boyer intends to take six riders in the five-day event.

LOCAL cyclists have landed an invitation to take part in the Tour do Janeiro scheduled for July 28-1 August in Brazil.

Team Rwanda were runners-up to Eritrea in the just-ended Kwita Izina cycling tour and head coach Jonathan Boyer intends to take six riders in the five-day event.

"The invite is testament of the progress of the sport,” the American said.

The riders in question include Nicodem Habiyambere, Gasore Hategeka, Emmanuel Rudahunga, Obed Ruvogera, Innocent Uwamungu and Nathan Byukusenge.

Over 150 cyclists are expected to grace the 783km race which is registered on the UCI (International Cycling Union) calendar.
