This was the first of the roadshow series in the city. Belting numbers from their old and latest albums, the contestants gave the crowd what they had come for. With the MCs doing their thing on the stage, and DJs spinning the wheels – it was a perfect night for head banging.
The crowd went berserk, screaming for their idols to give them their hard-core music. All the contestants: Dream Boyz, Urban Boyz, J-Polly, Riderman, Rafiki, Mani Martin, Faycal, King James and Tom Close did not disappoint.
"I won’t be scared of the rain. I’ll stay and give the artistes my utmost support, because they have showed us their great potential,” Jane Umutoni, a Kigali businesswoman.
The first contestant, Faycal took to the stage and waxed a great performance – immediately upping the show’s ante with a live performance.
Dream Boyz displayed their love for music by belting such numbers as ‘Mpamiriza ukuri’ and ‘Bella’.
It was a full-on show-out extravaganza and the crowd was treated to unique performances, with energetic dance moves and singing prowess from each contestant.
In an interview, Riderman said: "We are so excited about the devotion Rwandans have showed us, especially now, and this shows that our music is developing and people appreciate it.”
"Three years ago, you could hardly see people braving the rain for the concert, but its raining and people have refused to go. This is really unbelievable,’ the amazed singer added.
The Primus Guma Guma Superstar members must have had a good impression towards their Kigali fans – they (the fans) did not mind the weather. The free concert started at 5 pm until 8:20 pm and people enjoyed Primus at a promotional price of Rwf500 for two Petit Primus bottles.
Mani Martin, who spiced up his live performance with Shaggy’s song ‘Strength of a Woman’ said: "I’m so glad today and really enjoyed my Kigali performance because it was live.”
"I request Rwandans to vote for me because I will represent our country very well,” he promised.
The eventual winner from the 10 contestants will bag Rwf6 million (US$10,000), among other prizes.
