Two new community radio stations based in Karongi and Gicumbi districts have now hit the airwaves, drawing excitement from the people living in the two districts.

Radio, if used for the right purpose, is a powerful communication tool that should play a key role in the ongoing transformation of the country.

Now that there are more and more radio stations are in place, the ordinary Rwanda should be involved in constructive debates and discussions about the development of their communities.

This will not only improve their welfare, it will also enhance good governance, one of the pillars on which the new Rwanda is built on.

While a number of existing radio stations focus on entertainment, the rationale behind community radio stations is to give the people a voice and a platform where they can express their views and ideas.

The Genocidal regime used the media to facilitate killings during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. However, with good leadership and professional personnel, the media, is a powerful tool, can be used to enhance the development of the country and improve the livelihoods of the people.

The Rwandan people are committed to working for the betterment of the country, the additional community radio stations will help accelerate the process through their wider grassroots reach.
