NGORORERO - Farmers in Ngororero District are appealing to development partners to focus on the promotion of modern agricultural and livestock production.

The farmers made the remarks during the District Accountability Day, held on Wednesday. The event was opened by the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana.

The farmers say they need factories to process and market their products to reduce costs related to transportation of their produce to neighboring districts.

"We need a market and a processing factory for agricultural products like rice. It’s still expensive to go to Muhanga District to process rice yet the market is small,” Jean Claude Munyagatare said.

The farmers, however, noted that development partners have been supportive in the implementation of rural development programs, helping associations and cooperatives.

Gasana commended the district for its development initiatives and said collaboration in maintaining security of residents is primary in promoting development, good governance and economic growth.

The Police Boss asked the district to organise a special day for the National Police to exhibit its activities and achievements in the area.

Mayor Gideon Ruboneza, hailed the Joint Action Development forum (JADF) for its involvement in implementing the district development plans.
He said: "The district plans to focus on boosting agriculture, health and cooperatives and so far, a 90 percent target has been achieved.”

The Accountability Day was organised by the JADF-Ngororero and attracted the district’s development partners.
