KIGALI – APR has suspended assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana under mysterious circumstances, Times Sport can reveal.

The military side claims Nshimiyimana, who also sits on the Amavubi technical bench, was involved in ‘juju’ in the build-up to Amavubi’s 3-1 defeat against Burundi on Sunday.

APR’s Secretary General Adophe Kalisa revealed that the 38-year-old is suspended pending further investigations.

"He may not have been on duty but club regulations still apply to our players and officials and we always take necessary measures when the need arises,” Kalisa said, before adding, "I cannot say how long the suspension will take but after the investigations, we will decide what to do.”

Reacting to APR’s stand, a bitter but composed Nshimiyimana said that he was not surprised by the allegations and the club’s hasty decision.

"I’m disappointed but not surprised. Similar allegations came up in 2006 when I was assistant coach and I was sacked,” the former APR and Amavubi midfielder said.

Nshimiyimana is part of the memorable team which qualified for the 2004 Africa Nations Cup in Tunisia.

During his APR days, he won several trophies with the club.
