GISOZI - The management of Ecobank-Rwanda, over the weekend, donated Rwf1million to Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, Gisozi.

The donation was delivered to the memorial centre’s management when the bank’s staff visited the centre.

Speaking after touring various sections of the memorial, Gilles Guerard, the Managing Director of Ecobank-Rwanda said that their visit was aimed at clearly understanding and learning about the history of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

"This visit was necessary for us as a corporate company to join hands with other Rwandans in remembering our beloved ones who lost their lives during the Genocide,” he said.

Gilles pointed out that it was necessary for companies to always take the responsibility of owning social orientation initiatives such as providing financial support to genocide memorial sites and supporting vulnerable genocide survivors.

He commended the government of Rwanda for launching the Genocide archive saying it will help to efficiently and effectively preserve the history of the genocide against the Tutsis to immortalise the memory of the genocide and to educate the future generation in order to avoid similar occurrences.

The country manager called upon Rwandans to always fight against the genocide ideology and other related ethnical crimes in the country as well as recalling those who perished in the genocide.

He pledged that his bank would participate in commemoration annually.
