NGORORERO- Staff of the Rwandais Assurance de Maladie (RAMA) donated Rwf5m towards the construction of Muhororo genocide site.

Led by Dr. Innocent Gakwaya, the RAMA Director General, the group laid wreaths to honour over 23,000 genocide victims to be interred at the site.

The team also handed four of the fifty heifers to be donated to the association of Muhororo genocide survivors.

Dr. Gakwaya expressed the need to support such initiatives noting that the donation is meant to support survivors.

"Once the site is completed, it will give due respect to genocide victims, restore dignity of the persons in the Rwandan community and give solace to hearts of survivors,” he said.

The site is due for completion in the next one month with at least Rwf10million needed for the activities.

Officials of umbrella organisation of survivors (Ibuka) in Ngororero hailed RAMA for picking interest to know how the genocide took place in the area and supporting the survivors.

The Ibuka area chairperson Jean D’Amour Niyonsenga, said remains of genocide victims in the area are yet to get a befitting burial.

He said: "With the completion of the site, survivors’ hearts will be relieved. We are happy to see other Rwandans visiting us and wanting to listen to the story of genocide in Muhororo.”

Genocide survivors in the area hailed the government for its efforts in promoting unity and reconciliation, including supporting their livelihoods.

Norbert Rwikiriza, one of the heifer beneficiaries said it would supplement on his income, improve feeding and provide manure for his farm.
