KICUKIRO - A Rwf 162m three-year project was recently launched to support people infected and affected by HIV/Aids in Kicukiro District, Kigali City.

The project is funded by the Global Fund and will benefit 254 residents from four sectors including Gatenga, Kanombe, Gikondo and Kigarama.

It will jointly be implemented by the Government and Evangelical Restoration Church.

Speaking during the launch, the Executive Secretary of Kicukiro District, Adalbert Rukebanuka, promised cooperation by local authorities in ensuring that the support goes to the deserving beneficiaries.

"As part of our responsibilities, we shall lead the identification process in getting the 15 beneficiaries from each cell,” Rukebanuka said.

The Project Coordinator, Mwanga Semadwinga, highlighted the activities to be conducted during the implementation.

"We shall bring together the most vulnerable people, so that they come up with cooperatives to start income generating activities,” Semadwinga said.

Other activities to be carried out include training or sensitisation campaigns for family planning methods and male circumcision so as to reduce the risk of HIV transmission.
