Cabinet appoints new Auditor General

KIGALI - A Cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame, Wednesday appointed Obadiah Biraro as the new Auditor General (AG) for state finances.Biraro replaces the long serving AG, Evelyn Kamagaju, who has held the position since 2004. Prior to his appointment, Biraro was the Deputy AG.

KIGALI - A Cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame, Wednesday appointed Obadiah Biraro as the new Auditor General (AG) for state finances.

Biraro replaces the long serving AG, Evelyn Kamagaju, who has held the position since 2004. Prior to his appointment, Biraro was the Deputy AG.

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds an MBA from Uganda Martyrs University.

Biraro previously served in the banking sector, notably the Central Bank, the Cooperative Bank of Kenya and as a Certified Public Accountant in charge of various audits with Ernest &Young, Nairobi- Kenya.

The same meeting also appointed Angelique Kantengwa as the Director General (DG) of a new body; Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB).

Kantengwa was the Senior Director Financial Stability, National Bank of Rwanda where she has worked for the last 15 years.

She holds a Masters Degree in Economics and Social Sciences from the Facultes Universitaires Notre Dame de la Paix –Namur – Belgium.

She is currently  pursuing another Masters Degree in Public Administration at Harvard Kennedy School USA.

RSSB was formed recently after the merging of the Social Security Fund of Rwanda (SSFR) and the government medical insurance agency, RAMA.

Africa Ramba, who was the Acting Director General of SSFR, was appointed the deputy DG of the new body, in charge of finance and estate development while Dr. Innocent Gakwaya who headed RAMA became the deputy DG in charge of benefits (medical services and pension).

Laetitia Nkunda – Director General of Local Economic Development Support Funds (RLDSF)
Robert Bayingana, President of the Board of Directors – Electricity, Water and Sanitation Agency (EWSA).

Yussuf Uwamahoro, deputy Director General in charge of energy.

Esther Mutamba, Director General of Rwanda Housing Authority

Dr. Elias Twagira, Director General of Rwanda Transport Development Agency.

Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza, Director General and Registrar - Rwanda National Resources Authority (RNRA).

Bishop Laurent Mbanda, President of Board of Directors – Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).

Jean Marie Vianney Makombe, Executive Secretary - Eastern Province
