Editor,

I am writing to express my happiness over the reduction of  food prices as reported by The NewTimes on May 30.

The news comes at a time when the world is facing oil crises, rising prices, rising cost of living and shortage of supplies in different areas.

Therefore, it gives us relief to know that our country is projecting a positive trend where fuel prices will stabilise hence leading to a fall in prices of consumer goods and food.

I would therefore wish to congratulate our government for closely monitoring the economy and controlling inflation, saving and protecting us from some crises
From the Global Financial Crisis, we got to know that when governments don’t act, the situation can get out of control but when governments take charge, there is little damage in such circumstances.

While liberal market economies have their own advantages, for a country like Rwanda which is landlocked, the government has to control prices and this is what has saved us from much damage from the current global situation.
