Among its core responsibilities of ensuring the safety of Rwandans and their property and ensuring that they are safe and assured, the Rwanda National Police has gone a step further to promote sporting activities.

At the helm of the various sporting activities that the Rwanda National Police promotes is the Police Football Club.

The idea to come up with a police football outfit was hatched in 2002 in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province, where a group of local football players were recruited.

Police FC began its crusade in the same year in the second division where it battled through the ranks to top the league thus earning an automatic qualification into the first division league.

Over the past seven years, Police FC has been playing in the first division league and all through has been regarded as a mid table outfit which at times has to fight to avoid relegation.

However, just at the beginning of the year, a rejuvenated Police side began to surge up the table by registering several significant wins. Currently it is still vying for the second spot in the Primus National football league as the slot is still mathematically attainable. On top of that, Police FC has reached the semifinals of the Peace Cup.

These achievements have been possible partly because of reforms in the management of the club which saw the squad reinforced with new and talented players.

Most notable among them is Meddy Kagere, who was recently awarded the player of the month gong for his goal scoring prowess that has helped Police FC close in on the second spot in the league.

The Management of Police FC looks forward to keep the momentum going into next season. It is believed that the current form signals better times the team has ahead.
