Most people who enjoy listening to Rwandan hip-hop music certainly know Emery Gatsinzi, famously called Riderman.

The 25-year-old released his first record song, "Turi Muri Party” in 2007, after two years singing in the music group, UTP Soldiers. His turning point came later in the year, after deciding to pursue a solo career.

He said he never dreamt of becoming a musician during his childhood. He was more of a poet and a soccer player. He joined music in 2005, after the inspiration of the legendary rapper, Tupac Shakur.

The self acclaimed "Crunk king” launched his debut album "Rutenderi” in 2008, and won the "best hip-hop artist” title, in the year’s Salax Awards.

He became more successful after joining the celebrated group, "Inshuti Z’icyirere”, and recording hit songs with its popular members like, The Ben, K8 Kavuyo and NPC.

The2009 dominancy of the hip-hop crew, Tuff Gang, significantly threatened his status until he released his award winning, second album, ‘Impinduramatwara’.

The rap-star has been through feuds with his former group mate Neg G, underground Big Guns, and newcomer, Jay Polly.  Such controversies ironically made him more famous.

Even though local Rwandan music is most competitive in the hip-hop genre, Riderman’s unique style and exciting lyrics have kept his name consistently at the top.
