Editor,

This letter is in reference to your article which appeared in yesterday’s issue of The New Times entitled: " Indian investors participate in Umuganda.”

As Kalyan Chakrabarti, Chief Financial Officer of the Punj Lloyd Group has rightly said , Kigali is the cleanest and safest city from among the 28 cities he has travelled. It is without any doubt, that Kigali is one of the cleanest and safest cities in the world.

India would do very well to borrow a leaf from Rwanda and start " Umuganda " particularly in the metros and mini-metros.

This programme is, indeed, very striking as even His Excellency President Paul Kagame and his entire Cabinet are out on the streets doing Umuganda on the last Saturday of every month.

With a glowing example set by the President himself, this community based activity has proved to be a resounding success.
