RUHANGO- Local telecom firm Tigo, donated new uniforms to members of a motorcycle transporters association (Ucotamos) in the Southern province.

The uniforms were handed over to seven cooperatives during the launch held in Ruhango district,last Friday.

The uniforms are emblazoned with registration numbers of the members’ cooperative, area of operation and personal details. Similar uniforms were distributed in other provinces.

The secretary general of the Rwanda Federation of Motorcycle Transporters (Ferwacotamo) Venuste Surwumwe, said the move is intended to remodel motorcycle taxi business into a professional career.

"This is a new commitment for our members to provide professional services to clients. Our members will be responsible, well behaved and easily monitored,” Surwumwe said.

Surwumwe encouraged other motorcycle operators to join the union to forestall criminal cases and accidents among those unregistered.

The Chairman of Ucotamos, Alexis Nyabugande, stated the donation was timely adding that all motorcycle operations would be monitored.

He said: "The uniforms will help our members to be easily identifiable in case of accidents and misconduct, improve their hygiene and discipline in business.”

The motorcycle operators will also be able to offer Tigo services such as e-Go- one of the money transfer mobile packages to their clients and earn at least seven percent from the transactions.

"I will not only market Tigo products but, simultaneously, earn and provide better services to the community, as a professional service provider,” Daniel Abiyisi, one of the beneficiaries noted.
