BUGESERA - The leadership development training for all Vice Mayors in charge of Finance and Economic Development across the country kicked off yesterday in Gashora.

The training is organised by the Rwandan Ministry of Local Government in collaboration with GIZ and Swiss Cooperation. It is facilitated by experts from Singapore.

The training follows a similar one involving all District Mayors that ended last Saturday.

Briefing the Vice Mayors at the ministry’s headquarters, before their departure for Gishora, the Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, said that the training should help them to identify areas that need more improvement and identify tools required to fill those gaps.

"Your role in national development is crucial, and that is why the Government has decided to invest in you, to become more transformational leaders, who are also characterised by a high level of discipline,” Musoni said.

"Rwanda is committed to social economic transformation, and we expect you to benefit from this training. Our expectations are very high, and the Government wants you to be fully equipped to meet to those expectations and development goals,” he added.

The trainees and trainers thanked the government for its continued commitment to capacity building.

Charles BAHIZI, from Nyamasheke district, said he expects to receive enough tools and skills for community based planning strategies.
