KCC won by three wickets

A breathtaking 30-run partnership between Jasat Mehboob and Patel Rizwan helped Kigali Cricket Club to a three-wicket win over Right Guards in Sunday’s RCA league game at Kicukiro oval.

After winning the toss and electing to field, KCC bowled out the Guards for a modest 102 thanks to Gopal Reedy and Mehboob who picked four wickets between themselves.

In the second innings, KCC’s middle order Rizwan batted well, working both sides of the field with stunning effect.

He finished off with a valiant 18 not out which included two fours.

Right Guards vice captain Emma Byiringiro blamed his side’s poor batting for the defeat.

"I feel the bowlers did their part but it was a very low score to defend. We were probably 20 or 30 runs short," Byiringiro noted.

"It was another sloppy performance especially with the bat and a couple of guys are disappointed with the way they got out," he stressed.

On the other hand, KCC’s captain Mehboob hailed his side.

"We got the wickets and that really put the brakes on Right Guards innings in the middle overs.

"The whole team enjoyed the innings, but it’s important to keep in mind that there is a final waiting."

After Sunday’s win, KCC topped pool B with eight points and will now play Challengers in the RCA league final slated in two weeks time.
