Monday the 23rd I celebrated my thirty something birthday, this time away from home. Unknowingly to me, my friends and another one whom we share a birthday date arranged a surprise party for me.

On the morning of my birthday the first call I got was from my mother, children and siblings and later from my partner who happens to be the father of my children and of course my friends.

We want to buy you a dress, what is your preferred colour of the dress this year, one of my friends asked. Not knowing what colour to choose, I told them to hold on and I went to my friend’s laptop and went searching through the net.

Voila! I said I want a Turquoise dress- what is that? They asked in unison, and where did you see that? Well turquoise is a cyan shade of green and blue, and it so happens that it has been said to be the color of the year, so I want to go with the trend! As I was explaining all this information to them we went on to check a few turquoise dresses online.

It was not easy to get a turquoise dress my size, but we were lucky enough when I saw a beautiful turquoise blouse my size and matched it with a pair of khaki Capri pants.

Well turquoise has been chosen by the fashionistas to be the colour of the year; therefore it is not surprising that celebrities are all in turquoise shades.

In fact Chelsea Davy the lady waiting to walk Prince Harry down the aisle was spotted in a very beautiful sheath turquoise dress, and some other royal guests too were spotted in turquoise dresses recently when attending the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

One of the things that top designers in the world love about this colour is that it symbolizes the calmness of tropical waters and soothing nature of the deepest blue seas.

In fact they say that the turquoise dresses give the wearer an inviting and pleasant aura. Fashion experts have also suggested how the gentle shades of turquoise can revolutionize the entire fashion industry.

Aside from being a symbol of protective talismans, it also represents healing, deep compassion, truth, and faith.

Most people also considered turquoise as an escape to an inviting paradise filled with joy and fantasy because it has an effect of the sea.

A simple turquoise dress can stir up positive emotions in every possible way.

The mix of gentle green and blue make turquoise emit a sweet feminine aura. Meanwhile, darker shades of turquoise can give you a sophisticated and elegant look.

Its shades range from deep greenish hues to calm blue shades. Tommy Hilfiger, a celebrated fashion designer, equates the feeling of wearing a turquoise dress with the calming feeling of strolling down the beach.

It will look perfect with white accessories or even darker shades of gray or charcoal, he said.

The likes of Jeniffer Lopez, Hayden Panetterie and Cameron Diaz are crazy about their turquoise dresses. This color can bring more life and versatility to any dress, its fresh hues of green and blue can make you radiate with youthful energy.

Above all, one should be careful when matching for this color. Turquoise head to toe can make one look like a Christmas tree, but for as long as a turquoise dress is matched properly with minimal accessories, your look will go a long way to suggest your sophistication and elegance.

This is one piece of colour that every lady should own in her closet whether it is a blouse or a dress, turquoise is a must for the season.
