RWANDA’s U17 team concluded the one-week training camp in Germany on a brilliant note holding Dusseldorf U-18 side to a 1-all draw in Dusseldorf on Wednesday.

Rwanda was using the one-week training camp to prepare for the upcoming Fifa U17 World Cup final which kick off in Pachuca, Mexico from June 18-July 10.

Striker Justin Mico marked his return to fitness as he came off the substitute’s bench to score the equaliser on 80th minute. Emrah Cavdar had scored the opening goal for the home side after a slip up in the defense.

The team’s performance was much improved compared to the way they played in their 3-1 win over Koln U-18 team last Sunday.

On Wednesday, Richard Tardy’s team was missing influential players like Faustin Usengimana and Arsenal U-16 striker Alfred Mugabo due to minor injuries.
Tardy told Times Sport, "We played better this time round.

The players played well and we equalised after dominating the game for some time.”

"I am optimistic after today’s (Wednesday) game because players have shown that they are ready for the World Cup.

The result has given confidence to the players after playing a good game against a team older than them,” added Tardy.

Tardy added that the Germany camp has been positive and hopes to go step by step in readiness for the June 19 group c opening match against England.

The Junior Wasps departed for an 8-hour long flight to USA yesterday from Frankfurt. They will spend three days in Phoenix before connecting to Taos, New Mexico on Sunday for the two-week final rehearsal stint.

The training camp in Taos is aimed at helping the team acclimatize with the tough weather conditions which will be similar to their playing venue in Pachuca, Mexico.
