Hungry for success: Jean Baptist Hakizimana

AFTER a week of intensive training, Jean Baptiste Hakizimana cannot wait to play in the KCB Golf open that tees off this morning at Kigali Golf Club.

Hakizimana, Emmanuel Ruterana and rookies Ernest Ndayisenga and Olivier Munyaneza will take on their East African counterparts in the 5th round of this year’s KCB East Africa Golf Tour.

The 23-year-old finished 10th position in last week’s Arusha leg but is adamant that he can better that performance.
"It is going to be difficult as usual but I think I have prepared well for the tournament,” he said.

35 professionals and over 100 amateurs from Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda will take part in the four-day competition, which has prize money amounting to Rwf6.9m.
Kenya’s Greg Snow, who won the Arusha leg, conceded that it would narrow down to putting.

"I have only had one training session and it’s clear that the greens are inconsistent so I think the locals have an edge over us,” the 21-year-old said.
