Uganda is set to become the regional research centre for studies on the origin and prevalence pattern of the deadly Ebola virus (Epidemiology of Ebola).

This comes after the country was on February 20 declared free of the deadly fever that recently killed 40 people in the country’s western district of Bundibugyo.

The development was announced by the Ugandan commissioner of health services and national chairman of Ebola Taskforce, Dr Sam Okware, during a media workshop on the disease and other outbreaks last week at Emerald Hotel, Kampala.

"Uganda is going to become a centre for epidemiology and surveillance to manage the Ebola epidemic in the region due to the experience Uganda has had with the Ebola and other outbreaks,” he said.
