On this week’s episode of The Long Form, we take a deep dive into the state of security and humanitarian crisis in eastern DR Congo – and how it threatens neighbouring Rwanda’s right to exist.

Host Sanny Ntayombya is joined by Edwin Musoni, The New Times news editor, to make sense of the recent developments, particularly Rwanda’s statement of Monday, February 27, with the title: ‘Rwanda hails outcomes of AU meetings, reinforces border security’.

The statement entailed outcomes of the AU summit on the ongoing eastern DRC crisis and what, if any, confidence they have in regional troops to observe the implementation of the ceasefire. The statement also implicitly implied that in the best interests of Rwanda’s security, defensive and preventative measures will be taken to guard against violation of Rwanda’s airspace and borders.
