High heels can have adverse effects

It was interesting to read an article about the dress code for church in the Sunday magazine of "THE NEW TIMES”.

What is a proper dress code and what is improper dressing is a debatable issue. What one likes to wear is a personal choice based on the regional and cultural factors.

Then there are dress codes for appropriate dressing in offices, church, formal occasions, e.t.c. Now whether one follows them or not is up to him or her and the solemnity of the occasion.

But there are certain things which are best not worn for keeping good health.

First are the high heeled shoes, which seem to be eternally in fashion. Women wear them maybe to look smart or just because it is fashionable to wear them.

A young lady told me that her gait will improve after wearing high heeled sandals. But   whatever may be the reason for somebody to wear high heeled shoes or sandals, they are hazardous for health.

Those wearing high heeled shoes regularly are prone to have pain in the   back, calf muscles and foot due to the unusual elevation of the leg from the heel. One also suffers from tingling with other abnormal sensations in the feet.

They are also susceptible to have varicose veins (dilatation of the veins) at even a young age, because this type of foot wear puts strain on the blood vessels of the legs also.

A pregnant woman has the risk of abortion due to regular wearing of high heeled shoes, because it also puts strain on the pelvis which is an unsupported part of a woman’s body.

Apart from all   these, there is a real risk of the foot turning or twisting because of the abnormal position in which it is placed due to the high heels.

Thus one can suffer from a fractured foot or soft tissue injury in the foot due to these fashionable shoes. The higher the heels of the shoes, the greater are the health risks.

High heeled shoes also make the hips heavier as that part has to balance the body in that abnormal position. This is something not desirable for a young figure conscious lady.

Another hazardous thing used by women   is tight jeans which seem to be very much in vogue. Aesthetically   they do not look good because nothing is left to imagination in the eyes of beholder regarding that part of a lady’s anatomy, after she wears them.

Wearing tight trousers all the time tends to compress the nerve passing through the thigh, a condition called as meralgia   parasthetica. This leads to tingling, numbness and at times even loss of sensation in the affected part.

Tight fitting brassieres when worn for long   are a known risk factor for breast cancers. While using  a brassier  for support to the breasts, one should make sure that the cup fits comfortably over the breast.

Nylon undergarments and clothes look attractive and trendy. But using them regularly is bad for one’s health.  Eczema, fungal infections, allergies are induced and aggravated by nylon clothes.  Nylon panties are a cause for much embarrassing itching over genital parts in women.

Nylon straps and hooks present in cotton brassieres are   also harmful. Therefore a person should try to use only cotton clothes, more so the undergarments.

These health hazards are for men as well as women.

In addition to these risks, men using   tight jeans along with nylon underpants are more prone to have sterility as increased warmth and compression over the scrotum leads to depression in sperm production. Nylon underpants lead to itching and fungal infection of genital parts in men as well as women.

It is good to be fashion conscious and stylish, but one should keep in mind that good health is also necessary. Moreover a human being has much more   to him than mere clothes or accessories.

Every young individual should try to develop their mental potential instead of giving  undue  attention to clothes and shoes.
