An IAAF World Championships medal-drought beckons for Rwanda unless 5000m national icon, Dieudonne Disi posts an impressive time in his heat to qualify for the final at the Nagai Stadium in Osaka, today night.

In any case for Disi, this is a heat to make it to the Sunday final .However, he must negotiate high temperatures to appear in the final .

Disi is the only athlete who will fly the Rwandan flag in the heat and pressure is on his shoulders to steer his country to the final round.

Disi, who finished 17th in the 10000m during 10th edition of the World Athletics Championships which were held in Helsinki in 2005, has been shifted posts to 5000m with an aim of bagging a silver ware for her motherland this time.

After a thorough training mission in Holland, Disi was left out of the medal brackets in this year’s All Africa Games which were held in Algiers, Algeria, finishing fourth in the half-marathon race.

Meanwhile, today’s race is a tight and rough race for our gazelle as stiff competition is expected from all athletes inside the Nagai stadium.

The 27 year old and former national police constable has 13:38:12 as his best personal time and he will feature in the second heat.

The 5000m second heat has attracted 18 entrants and the four fastest runners are Kenyans. Ends
