BPR spends Rwf30m on mobile banking promotion

Banque Populaire du Rwanda (BPR), the country’s leading bank by branch network spent Rwf30m in a promotion dubbed ‘Use ‘n’ win’. to award clients using its mobile banking service.

Lucky winners will win new scooters, airtime, Star times decoders and subscription and electricity vouchers.

BPR’s Chief Executive Officer, Herman Klaassen, said the promotion is aimed at increasing the usage of mobile banking product that was launched last year.
The promotion which started early this month will run until August this year.

"To stand a chance of winning, a client is required to make at least four minimum transactions a week. So we had 22,000 eligible winners for the first draw out of the 70,000 registered users we have on our service,” Klaassen explained.

Weekly and twice a month prizes will be given out.

He further explained that to win, customers are required to carry out transactions on the mobile banking service including checking account balance or mini statement, money transfers -purchase MTN airtime, purchase electricity, pay Star Times or DSTV subscription or pay MTN post paid bills.
 
BPR Mobile Banking helps customers to conduct banking transactions via their mobile phone handsets. The bank has so far registered 70,000 subscribers with 20,000 recorded transactions per month.
 
Tharcisse Twagirumukiza, who was the first lucky winner, told Business Times that he had pldedged to make more than four transactions per week.

"I would advise the unbanked to use this mobile banking service as it is less time consuming, very convenient and quick,” he said.
