Rwanda up in Fifa rankings

AMAVUBI coach Sellas Tetteh and his team will take some pride from the fact that their timely win over Burundi in the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers has continued Rwanda’s rise in the latest world Fifa rankings.Rwanda has moved up one place to 122. Prior to the Burundi match, the country was at its lowest (135th) following a dismal start in their qualification campaign (back to back defeats against Ivory Coast and Benin) and another abysmal performance at the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Sudan back in January.

AMAVUBI coach Sellas Tetteh and his team will take some pride from the fact that their timely win over Burundi in the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers has continued Rwanda’s rise in the latest world Fifa rankings.

Rwanda has moved up one place to 122. Prior to the Burundi match, the country was at its lowest (135th) following a dismal start in their qualification campaign (back to back defeats against Ivory Coast and Benin) and another abysmal performance at the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Sudan back in January.

Rwanda also moved up three places to 31 on the continent.

Neighbours Uganda are still the top ranked Cecafa team in 84th position.

Sudan is 104 while Tanzania and Kenya are ranked 117 and 123 respectively.

Rwanda’s Group H opponents for the 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers Ivory Coast and Benin are 21st and 80th respectively while Burundi is further back in 149th position.

World Cup-winner Spain still leads the rankings, followed by Netherlands.
